A swift buzzing noise past your ear will incite fear quicker than it takes for you to say “bee” out loud. Temperatures are warming up and you will be spending more time outdoors. A few bees around your backyard and near flowers should not cause alarm as they are necessary for pollination. If, however, you notice an increasing amount of bees and they’re buzzing by frequently, then there is potentially a nest nearby.
Let it Bee
Under any circumstances, do NOT attempt to handle a swarm of bees or a hive on your own. Call an expert to come and safely remove them from your home. There’s a reason boxing legend Muhammad Ali famously described his fighting style as, “float like a butterfly, sting like a bee.” Just one bee sting will make you wish you floated like a butterfly back inside your home to call someone with the proper safety equipment to handle the situation. Save yourself the pain and headache.
Bee Cool
If you find a hive, calmly lead your family (including pets) inside, close all windows and doors, and urgently call a pest control professional. Bees are rarely aggressive unless you provoke them, so play it safe and keep your distance.
